- Frequently Asked Questions
Installing the Software
- Before installing the BlueBook software, it is VERY important
that you make sure your system meets the following minimum requirements:
- Your PC is a Pentium system
- Your processor is 120MHz or faster (ie- a Pentium 120 or better)
- You have at least 70MB of free disk space
- Your screen resolution is set to at least 800 by 600 pixels (ie- 640
by 480 will NOT work)
- Before installing any software on your computer you should shut down
all other applications you may be running, such as Word, your internet
browser, your email program and so on. It is good practice, in general,
to not have any programs running when doing an installation of any type
of software.
- To being the installation, put the BlueBook CD into your CD-ROM drive
and wait at least 30 seconds to give the drive time to come up to operating
speed
- Depending on your computer's settings, the BlueBook Setup program may
or may not start automatically. If it does not, click on your "Start" button,
then on the "Run" option and type "D:\SETUP.EXE" and
press <ENTER>. Note that if your CD-ROM is not drive "D:",
you will need to substitute the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive
here.
- When SETUP starts, you will see the following screen:

- Click "Continue"
- Next, you will see:

- Type in your name and, optionally, your organization and click on "OK"
- The next screen you will see is:

- Click OK to install to the "Program Files\Shotshell" folder.
- The next window shows you where the software will be installed and
starts the installation process when you click the large "Install
all files" button as shown here:

- The setup program next asks which program group you would like the
software to appear under. This determines where under your "Programs"
menu the software will appear. The "Programs" menu is where you
go after you click on the "Start" button to launch the software
that is installed on your computer. Simply click "Continue" on
this window.

- The installation then starts and the BlueBook files are copied to your
hard drive. During this process you will see a progress window like this:

- When setup is finished you will see this:

- If you are instructed to Restart Windows at the end of the installation,
go ahead and do so.
- Once you have rebooted your computer, you can then start using the
BlueBook software.
Usage
Starting the ShotShell Box BlueBook Software
- If you have performed the setup as described above, to start the BlueBook
software, click on your "Start" button, click on "Programs"
and go to the "BlueBooks by APCS" program group as shown here:

- As shown in the picture above, the software installs two options into
your "Programs" menu. One is the BlueBook software itself, and
one is the Help File for the software.
Troubleshooting
BlueBook/Windows Program Menu: If you do not see two options
in the "BlueBooks from APCS" program group (the BlueBook icon
and the Help File icon), the software was not installed properly. Most
likely, the minimum system requirements were not available (such as having
enough free disk space, etc) when the installation was done. To resolve
the problem, first uninstall the BlueBook software by going to the Windows
Control Panel and double-clicking on the "Add/Remove Programs"
icon. If you see the BlueBook software in this window:

highlight it by clicking on it and then click on the "Add/Remove..."
button. Once you have uninstalled, reboot your computer and then start
fresh with the instructions at the top of this page, taking care to ensure
that the minimum system requirements are available.
Screen Resolution: If your computer's Screen Resolution is not
set to at least 800 by 600 pixels, the BlueBook will tell you that it will
not run until the screen resolution is set to at least 800 by 600. To change
your screen resolution, go to the Windows Control Panel and double-click
on the "Display" icon and then go to the "Settings"
tab. Complete instructions for making changes to the screen resolution
are included in the BlueBook Help File.
BlueBook Help File: If you cannot open the BlueBook Help File
from your "Start" menu, the most likely cause is that you do
not have a web browser installed on your computer (ie- Netscape, Internet
Explorer, or some other browser). To resolve the problem, install a web
browser on your computer.
Other: If you encounter any other problems with the software,
send email to APCS indicating the
nature of the problem, the best way to
contact you (email, phone, etc) and a technical support representative
will contact and assist you.
