Klez emails not from who you think...

Greetings from The VACM Team,

In This Issue:
----------------------
Klez emails look like they are from someone other than the
actual sender.

***************************************************
* The Bottom Line...
***************************************************
Many of you are probably still getting Klez infected emails.

In case you decide to hit reply on any of these emails that your
antivirus told you were infected in order to warn the sender
that they have the Klez virus on their system, don't.  Some Klez
variants actually send infected emails to people in your address
book and make the email look like it came from someone else in
YOUR address book.

The only way to tell who a Klez infected email really came from
is to look at the internals of the email's header.  If you have
the time and inclination to do so, you can search for
"email header" on google.com or your favorite search engine.
There are lots of articles about how to view email headers.

For example, an email header looks something like this:

Return-path:
Envelope-to: vacm@apcsnh.com
Delivery-date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 08:39:49 -0400
Received: from pool-64-223-145-166.man.east.verizon.net
       ([64.23.15.166] helo=csdf_proxy1.asdh.com)
by server765.dnslive.net with smtp (Exim 3.35 #1)
id 17MT8G-0000OS-00
for vacm@apcsnh.com; Mon, 24 Jun 2002 08:39:48 -0400
(Truncated the rest to save space.... you get the idea...)

***************************************************
* What You Should Do...
***************************************************
- keep your antivirus up to date and encourage everyone else you
know to do the same.  Eventually, the virus will slow down and
possibly cease to exist for all practical purposes.  Klez is
certainly having a very long run, though, that's for sure!

- If you need to send Klez info to anyone, send them this:

******** APPENDIX - Handy How-To Tips **********

  * How To Boot into Safe Mode

Shut the computer down so that the power is off.

Turn the computer on, wait 1 second and begin pressing the F8 key
on the keyboard, once every second repeatedly. Do this until
the Windows Startup Menu appears. If you get a keyboard
error, press F1 to resume and then continue pressing the
F8 key once every second, or your PC may tell you to press another key for BIOS setup.

Select Safe Mode from the Windows Startup Menu, then press
the Enter key on the keyboard.

Windows will then boot into Safe Mode.
NOTE: This may take longer than a normal boot.

At the end of the boot process a dialog box will appear
informing you that Windows is in Safe Mode. Click OK on this dialog box.

Windows is now in Safe Mode.

If you miss hitting the F8 at the right time, Windows will boot
normally and you will not see the "Safe Mode" message.  In this
case, start from the top of these instructions until you get the
boot menu screen where you can choose "Safe Mode".  This can be
a little tricky the first time you do it.
