Greetings from The VACM Team,

In This Issue:
----------------------
Microsoft/AOL will send you at least $10,000 !!!

BONUS HOW-TO MOVIE!

movie for a simple way of removing SpyWare from your PC (see
the "Tip Of The Day" section below for the download link).

* The Bottom Line...
***************************************************
If you receive an email saying that Microsoft or AOL will
send you money for each person you forward the email to, please
read on.

Like the "Nigerian money" email scam this email hoax promises
generous payments from Bill Gates, Microsoft, and AOL.  The email
says that all you have to do to is forward the email to everyone
you know, then just sit back and collect a couple hundred bucks per
email address!

According to this bogus email, these corporate giants are
conducting an "e-mail beta test" to ensure that "Internet Explorer
remains the most widely used program."  Supposedly, you will be paid
up to $245 per email address you forward the original to, with a
pyramid diagram that continues to provide additional income each
time the forwarded email is forwarded.  There's even a personal
note at the bottom promising

"You are bound to get at least US $10,000.00."

Actually, all you will get is carpel tunnel syndrome from pressing
the Forward button too many times.

Based on how widespread this email has become, many people apparently
do find it believable.

This hoax is a knock-off of an older hoax known as the Bill Gates email
tracking hoax. Following is the full text of the more recent hoax:

+--------------------------------------------------------------------
| Dear Friends,
| Please do not take this for a junk letter. Bill Gates is sharing
| his fortune.  If you ignore this you will repent later.  Microsoft and
| AOL are now the largest Internet companies and in an effort to make
| sure that Internet Explorer remains the most widely used program,
| Microsoft and AOL are running an e-mail beta test.
|
| When you forward this e-mail to friends, Microsoft can and will track
| it (if you are a Microsoft Windows user) for a two week time period.
| For every person that you forrward this e-mail to, Microsoft will pay
| you $245.00, for every person that you sent it to that forwards it on,
| Microsoft will pay you $243.00 and for every third person that receives
| it, you will be paid $241.00.  Within two weeks, Microsoft will contact
| you for your address and then send you a cheque.
|
| Regards.
|
|   OR THIS...
|
| Chinu!
|
| I thought this was a scam myself, but two weeks after receiving this
| e-mail and forwarding it on, Microsoft contacted me for my address and
| within days, I received a cheque for US$24,800.00.  You need to respond
| before the beta testing is over.  If anyone can afford this Bill Gates
| is the man.  It's all marketing expense to him.  Please forward this
| to as many people as possible.
|
| You are bound to get at least US$10,000.00.

******** APPENDIX - Handy How-To Tips **********

  * How To Boot into Safe Mode

Shut the computer down so that the power is off.

Turn the computer on, wait 1 second and begin pressing the F8 key
on the keyboard, once every second repeatedly. Do this until
the Windows Startup Menu appears. If you get a keyboard
error, press F1 to resume and then continue pressing the
F8 key once every second, or your PC may tell you to press another key for BIOS setup.

Select Safe Mode from the Windows Startup Menu, then press
the Enter key on the keyboard.

Windows will then boot into Safe Mode.
NOTE: This may take longer than a normal boot.

At the end of the boot process a dialog box will appear
informing you that Windows is in Safe Mode. Click OK on this dialog box.

Windows is now in Safe Mode.

If you miss hitting the F8 at the right time, Windows will boot
normally and you will not see the "Safe Mode" message.  In this
case, start from the top of these instructions until you get the
boot menu screen where you can choose "Safe Mode".  This can be
a little tricky the first time you do it.
